Once we had strapped down the boat from our long Reading Row,
we headed to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which is GORGEOUS (seriously – these
showers are fantastic and only sharing them with one other person makes them
that much better). We all got settled
into our rooms for the weekend and then hit the town to find food and see a
little more of Reading. Our first stop was this little sandwich shop less than
a block from our hotel. They looked like they were getting ready to close up
soon, since it was at least 2:30pm at this point. I got orange and carrot juice
there – never had it before, but that is actually an excellent combination! We
wandered a little farther and made it over the bridge to see the rest of town
and, of course, Waitrose (the grocery store), because we needed yet more food.
The bridge in Reading
Maggie and I took a quick nap before evening practice and
then we were back at it to learn the course for tomorrow’s race! The weirdest
thing about this course is that the course itself isn’t at all straight and
there’s so much boat traffic that just does whatever it feels like... Jess is
going to have her work cut out for her tomorrow! We’re all really excited and a
little confused about how racing here in England works but wish us luck
tomorrow! The 1V takes on University of London Boat Club and the 2V will see
the Thames Rowing Club. Whoever wins these races will race each other at the
final, so here’s hoping for the 1V vs. the 2V tomorrow evening!!
